Case Study: Create A Profitable Blog, Step By Step

create a simple blog that began to generate revenue for you – even without a list, without affiliate or JV partners, and without experience? At our most recent live event, my friend and marketing genius Vishen Lakhiani from MindValley shared an absolutely incredible strategy for quickly creating a money-making blog in any market or niche. In this video, he lays the strategy out step by step, and gives you real-life examples that he’s created, and generated over a million dollars of revenue from in less than 2 years. If you’re looking to create a new income stream for yourself, or you’d like to add another sales process to your existing business, watch this video. It’s only 17 minutes, yet it’s a complete strategy and possibly the single most effective way of building a revenue-generating website that I’ve ever seen. The back story: at our live event, I challenged several of my friends and colleagues to do a 17-minute “TED Style” presentation that delivered a specific marketing strategy to the audience. Of all the presentations, Vishen’s was voted as the most powerful and that’s why I’m sharing it with you. Vishen won a $5,000 donation prize that we awarded to the top presentation as voted by attendees, and he donated the money to Shine On Sierra Leone, and AIESEC. Watch the video and PLEASE post a comment below to let us know what you think! If you like this video, I’ll continue to share more videos and content that allow you to quickly build up a new revenue stream from scratch.]]>

1. Subscribed to your youtube feed so I saw this yesterday haha. AWESOME content and strategy here. Very glad I am subscribed to your youtube, simple wealth and whatever other list I am on of yours. I just eat this stuff up. I’m actually trying some of these strategies from the video today as I just put up my website and am trying to link as much together and get content out there and build my list. Thanks Greg!

1. The business model is a proven one. However, there’s something non-internet marketers should know – it’s dependent on a high Google position, which is OK but it will take at least 6 months to get high rankings in profitable niches and the site MUST be an Authority website; Google is down grading small, affiliate marketing sites with low content and page counts. Keep this in mind, and also think about whether your target niche has enough good affiliate programs to support it. Good luck 😉

2. Very good model. I was concerned about the fact that I am not an expert but now I can be the reporter. Is there a training program for this?

1. No, there isn’t a training program or anything — this isn’t leading into selling anything at all, just a great piece of content that Vishen shared. But he provides enough detail that you should be able to start looking at the sites he mentions, and begin to plug in the knowledge you need to start building a site.

3. Thanks Greg, for sharing this! Vishen’s video is powerful because he has a great sense of humor and makes everything fun and interesting—even though it is “simply, serious business” LOL! We fully appreciate the grand tidbits that come forth from your collective and profound knowledge….

Greg, I appreciate all your knowledge, please advice one simple way that will not cost much to make

5. Excellent content Greg ! This topic is 100% CORRECT !
Why are people using their smart phones to scan the black info squares on product tags?

To get the “Trusted Authority” REVIEWS !!! Of that product !

Keep the GREAT info coming !!!

Thanks!
C.E.

6. Super stuff and very inspiring. It is so cool to bring everything in a simple fashion.
Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge.

8. aGreat video. Love to listen to Vishen!!! I would love to learn more, please keep the video’s coming and if there is a training program as I do not understand most of this. Thanks. JOY

9. Thanks Gregg!! Vishen is an AWESOME presenter. I just purchased the Optimzepress theme for wordpresss a few days ago.
All I needed was a good idea.
Got it!!

Thanks Gegg!!

10. That was an amazing video! Such simple concepts all brought together in a way that just makes sense in hindsight. Isn’t it amazing how much we know but don’t put together until someone else shows us how they did it?

Excellent! I can’t wait to try this.

11. Thanks Greg for sharing this video. Another great demonstration in building up “trusted authority” It gives me great ideas when I am now considering in building up a blog!!

12. Absolutely awesome. Since June 2010, nobody has taught this model? Where to find this model step by step? Thanks

13. Hi Greg/Vishen,

I just started implementing my research to create an Affilliate site, but I’ve found I’ll need to build it with valuable “how to” content before I can get enough traffic to generate commission revenue. Right now, I can’t view the video above because my Flash is down. Do you have a transcript for the above?

14. Greg/Vishen,
Every day I become more impressed with this simple truth.
“I don’t know what I don’t know!”
Thanks for the insight and implementable nuggets.
Please keep them coming.
All the best!

15. Wow Greg, thank you for sharing this video. Truly profound knowledge. I plan to apply the Ebert model in my business, although I try to be a Spielberg and direct fantastic content on my blogs as much as possible as well.

I think it’s important to recognize that Vishen seems very adept at choosing profitable niches and this has undoubtedly contributed to the profitability of his success. Nonetheless I believe this strategies can work in any niche and even in competitive niches his strategies can use these methods to prosper!

1. You are right Garin.

The idea of becoming Ebert is really fantastic. I never think about this before. Yet becoming Stevien Spielberg is far more harder. That is why only a few people can done that.

17. This guy is obviously brilliant. Makes it sound so easy. It will take me a while to wrap my head around this, but the concept has me intrigued. I always try to do everything myself because using e-lance seems complicated, need to get over that limited thinking. Thanks for the inspiration!

18. Terrific outline of his strategy. It seems a key is to have a receptive niche with that authority website. Self-development is the umbrella but as he mentioned with his launch of chakrahealing.com, you want a hot niche.

1. This is very true. The market choice is extremely important. I’ll also say that Vishen does a good bit of cross promotion between his various sites since they are all under the self development market. I know because I’ve bought several products from them (not including the one’s mentioned in the video). So one question that came up was how much of the income was generated from cross promotion to a very established list, and how much was from new customers. I’m going to assume by his explanation that it was from a new launch before any cross promotion, etc.

Vishen has always impressed me in a number of ways and he’s a good example to follow in doing business on the internet.

19. Once again great information! I have learned so much already. Thank you so much for introducing other wonderful individuals with great ideas! I really feel that I am getting great value for my investment. A big thank you!

20. Great content. and like the man says “its about content”. Good stuff always eager to see your emails because the content is real and your sincerity is obvious. thanks.

21. Greg//Vishen,

Awesome training material. Thanks so much for sharing and helping me to create an additional income stream through a simple five-step video. I’ll have to review it several more times before applying it to generate additional income for myself. Keep those videos coming. Really appreciate your thinking of helping us to create wealth.

Have a Happy Holiday & Merry Christmas.

22. This video is wild and generous in help
to know how, with whom, and with what.
Thanks for sharing. Jessie

23. Greg, this is exactly the kind of useful info I want and need. Thanks for making it available. I’d love to see more.

24. Is this possible in a subject with no content, or no good content? How does one monetize in that case, or does one move to another subject?

25. Great content, tips, and tricks! A quick question — with the new Google algorithm in place a few weeks ago — does that change Vishen’s recommendations?

26. That was “simply” AMAZING! Given in a simple, easy to use manner – giving a simple yet POWERFUL model. Thank you soooo much Vishan (and Greg) for sharing this information. And for FREE yet! You guys are awesome. Julie

27. Wow Greg and Vishen, that was simply amazing we bang our heads so hard against the wall sometimes, that is like condensing everything I have been learning for the last two years into 17 minutes of an action plan.

28. Hi Greg, great content as usual, always delivering valuable and usable info.

I’ve actually attended a few webinars lately where they ‘interview’ the expert in the field and I must say it is a highly effective sales technique, I often have to cool off to prevent myself from making an impulsive buy. Its great to actually get a ‘behind the scenes’ explanation as to how simple this strategy (with proper research) can be to implement. Although great care must be taken in delivering on expectations (refering to the webinar or telesiminar) as it can completely shatter that element of trust and professionalism.

Free info these days seems to be the key to future sales. My question is how far is it going to go?

Really enjoy your work. Please keep it coming!

29. My goodness, I’m not unimpressed! What a great instructional video. I’ve been attempting work hodgepodge for the past few months since I got out of the military and this helps me see why I’ve been so unsuccessful during that time. How can something baffle you with such simplicity?! Thanks again for all your helpful advice and words of encouragement.

30. Thumbs up for 15 minutes of practical content, and not an ounce of waffle. Too much to absorb in one viewing, so I’ll have to hit ‘Replay’.

31. I think the skills are picking a good niche and finding a niche with good products to JV for.

Very glad to hear that the ‘net is evolving to content and community – VERY glad!

32. Thanks Gregg for sharing this video, I got more from it than the £66 audio training I purchased. And thanks Vishen that was amazing.

33. Greg, this is amazing stuff…Thank you for sharing such rich content…Will put into practice Vishen´s advice on the spot! Best,

34. Hey, This was a really simple yet OH so powerful way to generate some income. Bottom line… deliver good high quality, useable content that helps people improve their lives and you have a ticket for a sure winner. Give to get! It helps position you as the trusted authority. NICE!
Thanks for making this available for us. Robert

35. Great Stuff Greg, getting wordpress installed now! Love this type of real world results, ‘the bottom line’ of what to do!
THANKS!

36. One problem.. woo themes have had some bad bugs. I know this because my fiance is a tech and he has been helping people who’s blogs have crashed and been hacked and they are all woo. just saying…

37. WOW! I said that many, many times while watching this video, pausing and taking copious notes! The content in Vishen’s video is valuable – in fact, more valuable to me than owning a bar of gold or some other commodity, because it has enriched me, personally! Moving the free line? Greg, you’ve managed to ‘poke the bear’ with that free line! Getting an e mail from you is like receiving a gift (of wisdom) and a dose of motivation to excel! Many thanks to Vishen for an outstanding presentation and to you for sharing this gem!

38. Holy Cow! That is amazing. A person could really run with this. My husband is passionate about freedom and all the crazy stuff that happens in our government etc. Up until now, his opinions reach, well me for the most part. I’m definitely going to suggest he watch this. To follow this same pattern could let his voice be heard as well as be very profitable.

39. Loved it Greg. I couldn’t understand why the audience wasn’t jumping up and down with excitement! I was. Seriously, this video created a possibility for me that never existed before; right up my alley of what I’m good at, networking, commentaries, interviewing, and so much more.

Thanks so much for this. It’s no wonder Vishen won the prize.

It seems like this is enough to get a good start on building a system, unique to our passion and audience. Is there more coming about this system?

Bert

40. Really nice clip! As always, you always deliver excellent content. Guess there’s no point sending a PM as everyone has already gone through the video (and you can still delete this message anyway), but your JV videos are being shown at the end of the youtube clip. Unless that’s what you wanted (or you don’t care) you might want to set them as private.

41. That was a truly insightful discussion which has given me an array of idea’s for a blog. Keep up the good work & I hope to learn loads more from you knowledge & expertise.

42. I’m in the process of building a blog – this gave me quite a lot to think about. Very powerful.
Yes please, more like this 🙂

43. Perfect timing! I’ve just set up a couple of brand new blogs (through Blogger) and was wondering how to make them profitable. I was relieved to hear that it takes about 6 months to get seen on Google – that way I won’t get discouraged 3 months into the project. Thanks a bunch, Greg!

44. Thanks Greg, Vishen, and team!

I’m in the middle of re-branding my business, and I’ve already applied many of these steps, but to hear them so cleanly and clearly outlined, and to hear them tied to what sounds like almost effortless results, is really inspiring.

Now, obviously, the tasks Vishen has outlined to require some work, but it’s minimal. Smart strategy, no wonder it one at your event 😀 Thank you so much for sharing this.

45. Greg/Vishen,

I finally was able to view the video. EXCELLENT!
I have been researching Affiliate Marketing and how to make money online for a while now, and just didn’t know how to get started with what I love to do. Well, that’s my niche! I love self-improvement, living with passion, spirituality, and teaching people how to do what they love. I am going to implement this model and will let you know how it’s going.

A few people mentioned it was a bit fast. I would recommend rewinding the video and pausing it. I reveiewed it a few times and each time I learned a little more in how to create my blog in relation to my niche/category.

THANK YOU!

46. Really solid advice on building a business by starting with a blog. My weekend will be spent reassessing my blogs and planning how to implement Vishen’s model. He is obviously a very energetic and smart young man!

47. Thanks Greg.

I’m creating my first launch, finishing the first video. I’m a newbie to online marketing, and keep stumbling on the what ifs and why me… so this kind of contente keeps me going forward and pushing, and also having fun and building faith.

Keep ’em coming!

A hug from Portugal,
João

P.s. Do you think there’s a maximum length we should not surpass in the videos to keep viewers hooked or is it all about anergy and content?

Thanks

1. It depends on the content and the audience, and what relationship you have. Basically the shorter the better, but long enough to communicate the point effectively. There’s no standard or perfect length. But energy and content are critical – someone has to learn something and get value, and they have to be engaged and entertained so boring will kill a video, no matter how long it is.

1. Thanks Greg.

That’s what I thought. I might distribute the content into more videos in order to get them shorter.

I see that yours tend to be between 20 to 30 minutes long, except the FAQ video. I’ll model it.

I’m going through the copy, and taking out the juice from what seem to be abstract (or too wide) concepts, and make them direct, juice and connecting at an emotional level.

I’m using the Million Dollar Multiplier in some cases to help me get to the juice.

See you.

48. It’s encouraging to have current strategies that work in building revenue. It’s also very helpful for entrepreneurial people who have disabilities. Thank you very much, Greg!

1. Thanks for mentioning disabilities… it’s one of the reasons I’m looking at an information/internet business.

49. This is really interesting. I am considering Blogs and Programming. I would like to know more.

50. Awesome, great stuff, business model laid out. Very under-serviced niche judging when looking at the main keywords in google keyword tool (remote viewing etc).
I checked Vishen’s site out on seo quake (mandatory free software folks) to see it’s page rank and links coming in to the site. NO LINKS – that’s awesome, a assume the site is being rewarded (as I confirmed that the site is ranking well for keywords) with good rankings because of a lot of solid content, and categorization as Vishen referred to.
I assume this lends weight to google playing more emphasis on solid content fed to the search engines not just spammy links. Any comments on these assumptions?

1. Google pays attention to sites that other people do. Content is a critical key to that – changing it every day, lots of comments, and length of time on page are all important.

51. I am so impressed, and what a clear presentation given the short time!

As a writer, I do have a question about outsourcing the blog copy, especially on a technical topic. If you’re the “reviewer” (trusted authority) and not the “film maker” (expert), how do you check on the accuracy and quality of the material you get from the outsourced writer you’ve hired? (Was it e-lance he mentioned?)

Thanks, Greg — great info as always. Keep the good stuff coming!

1. It would depend on the niche and how technical it is, but you would typically be able to fact check it pretty easily by doing some research yourself. Part of the process is for you to increase your own knowledge about the topic so that you’re able to build your expertise in the space, and this is a good way of doing it.

52. Loved this Greg! Exactly the kind of info I am looking for. Want more info on how to monetize! Can you show us more advice from Vishen please.

53. Great stuff! I’m wondering about contracts though to ensure you get the kick-backs from affiliates. Any examples there?

1. Affiliate agreements are a standard part of affiliate relationships. Because reputation is everything in affiliate marketing, it’s very rare to have problems not getting paid by an affiliate – if they became known as not paying properly, they wouldn’t get anyone promoting them. Any affiliate program you find will likely have an agreement you can look for. You can do a good search for “affiliate program” and you’ll find hundreds of different affiliate programs that you can see as examples.

54. I’m totally impressed, Greg. Not only are your videos worth watching for their excellent content, but you share the spotlight with others who give excellent info. AND, you follow up with answers to your audience. Thank you for teaching us. Please keep making your superior videos for us.

55. Seen this live and it was a deserved win for Vishen, who I must say was mega. Quality content with a simply twist. Quite remarkable that such simplicity could have expotential results. Love it.

56. Thank you for sharing the Vishen Lakhiani video. Powerful stuff. Keep sending this kind of marketing insight. I am not a marketing genuius but I can recognize good ideas when they are presented in a realistic way.

57. Very intriguing and inspiring. I appreciate you/Vishen sharing this information. It is very easy to understand and makes complete sense. It gave me some great ideas for my own blog and how to share my passion. Thank you for sharing and I look forward to more of the same.

1. Through an affiliate tracking system, which is a very easy system to implement when you are selling online. Most major shopping carts and online transaction systems provide the feature.

58. Greg you never fail to disappoint. Thank you for sharing this infromation packed practical video that introduces us to both the “Bloodhound Model” and the “Roger Ebert Effect.” You’ve got my creative juices flowing once again. Special thanks to Vishen for helping us all to raise the bar.

59. I’m confused. If were suppose to be the trusted authority, why did Vishen use a pen name until he got caught 5 weeks into things and was forced to use his real name. Isn’t that dishonest and deceitful? Isn’t one of the qualities of being a trusted authority is authenticity, intregrity, honesty 100% of the time?

1. Curious about this as well? But love the content here for sure. I’m want to implement similar but I am just wondering about the above question by Troy. Any comments please?

1. Using a pseudonym isn’t something that I would suggest doing. I don’t know that it’s “dishonest and deceitful”, as it’s not intended to be devious or damaging, but it doesn’t align with my approach. So get over that piece. You don’t have to do that. Focus on the concept here, because that’s the important part.

1. Over it! Thanks Greg. I focus on the good stuff always, I was more curious than anything else and it wouldn’t stop me. It’s to great a video for that. It doesn’t align with me either so now I know which way to go! Thanks again. Appreciate it.

1. This is Vishen. I actually revealed my real name AFTER the subscriber joined. I just did not use my name on the blog because at that time in my life I was unsure how long I wanted to be in this niche. I was also running a tech company.

60. Greg,
These are the shortcuts from blog to revenue. Well done and a great couple of new ideas I’ll be implementing for creating categories based on keywords and the Coming Soon optin….
Cool stuff! Thanks!
Tara

61. I love the concept here. How do you go about using other people’s articles on your site? Do you just email them and ask? You have to notify them in order to use their content otherwise I would feel shady. Once you have their content how do you give them credit on your site?

Thanks for all the help!

62. Thanks Greg! Wow you always deliver such amazing strategies!!! This is so brilliant in it’s simplicity and it’s open to anyone to jump in on any interest in any niche! Using this!

63. Extremely valuable content. I’m building a new business model right now and I’m going to figure out how to build this into it. Many, many thanks!!

64. Hi Greg Habstritt.

Thank you for publishing this post. Vishen Lakhiani is really an awesome marketer. What I really love the most is the idea of ‘content’. Where he just create an introduction, and the copy (and credited) whole article to the exact writer.

Become a reviewer is the fastest way to gain authority in any niche. Really love this idea. I just applied it to my blog.

Thank you once again. 🙂
