thinking at the next level up.” One of the the things that most people struggle with is making decisions at the level they’re at. They work in a specific job or role, and when a challenge comes up, they’re not sure how to solve it. One of the tools Keith taught us this weekend was the power of trying to step up one level from where you are, and then look down at the problem and make a decision from there. Perhaps a better way to explain it is to ask yourself, what would your boss or supervisor say? Or, if you work on your own, pretend you have a Board of Directors, and ask yourself what they would advise you to do. This assumes that the boss, supervisor, or Board of Directors has the best interest of the company at heart. A lot of people have a hard time figuring out what they should do themelves, but they often know what a supervisor or ‘higher power’ would do. So the point is, ask yourself what that would be, and then do it. Sounds too simple, I know.. but I’ve already been applying this idea, and it’s amazing how well it works! Keith also highly recommended a book called “Execution”, by Larry Bossidy, so I’ve got that on order and am looking forward to reading it. Whenever Keith recommends a book, it’s usually a great one. ]]>
