Canada's Banking System Catches Up To The U.S.

the Canadian government has changed the legislation, and we now consider 80% to be the conventional loan limit in Canada, just like the U.S. This is important, because lenders typically will provide conventional loans a lot easier than non-conventional loans.  Investors in Canada will soon be able to get 80% loans on rental properties without paying excessive fees and inflated interest rates, which was how it was done until now. It’s amazing to me that such a significant change was made to the law in Canada, yet most of the media didn’t pick it up.  Just reinforces the fact that the media doesn’t do a particularly good job of informing people what’s really going on in the financial markets. But for those investors that do understand what’s going on, it’s just another tool to use in the investing tool kit.  And, the great thing now is, when I teach my programs I don’t have to speak to Canada and U.S. students differently, because everyone’s now the same – conventional loans mean 80% LTV, regardless of where you are.]]>
