Canmore is truly a world class recreational property area, less than an hour from Calgary, at the gates of Banff, Alberta. It’s a spectacular setting that combines a laid back, small town atmosphere, with the convenience of being so close to Calgary. Of course, given the desirability of it, prices have exploded in Canmore, with properties going up 30% year over year in the past few years. In August, we’ll take possession of our newest “investment property” in Canmore. Ok, perhaps not so much an investment property as much as a lifestyle one.. but believe it or not, I did do the fundamentals research and believe this investment will be a good one, notwithstanding the time we’ll spend there enjoying it! A key part of the decision making process for us was ensuring it was large enough that we could have friends and family come and stay with us out there, so it’s a 4 bedroom, 4 bath townhouse, a little over 3,000 square feet. It is just amazing, topped only by the views from the deck of the condo. Here’s the view of what you look out into each morning as you sit and enjoy a morning coffee. The townhouse sits on Canmore Creek, with the Bow River about 100 feet away, and mountain all around. There are mountain views from every window in the property. It’s a very relaxing, spiritual place to be, and I’m looking forward to spending a lot of time out there. It’s one of the first times in my life where I can imagine actually living somewhere other than in Calgary! The dogs love being out there since there are miles and miles of pathways, forest and places to explore outside the back door. We still have our condo in Dominican Republic, and with our plans now to begin some development work down there, I expect we’ll hold onto that as well. The Cabarete condo is great to have for holidays where we want to go away from the cold for a couple of weeks or more.. but Canmore will be the perfect get-away, any time we’re feeling like we just want a few days of relaxation and peace. As I like to tell myself every day, Greg is a very lucky boy. ]]>
